Vampires vs Werewolves

Well, we take a look back and see that up until 1987, Dracula, the original vampire if you want, and the Wolfman, the original werewolf, had been kind of friends. We first see them up against each other in “The Monster Squad”. We have a more present situation in the Underworld series where Vampires and Lycans are in an ancient war, or in “The Vampire Diaries” when the werewolf Tyler turns against vampire Stefan. No one really wins and the movies and books are written from a certain perspective that will make you root for the vampires or the Lycans. Anyways, if we were to compare them objectively and find out their strengths and weaknesses, this is what it would look like!

Vampires: strengths and weaknesses

The first vampire we know of is Dracula, from the novel of the same name by the Irish author Bram Stoker. He’s a creature of evil who beat death and feeds on human blood to sustain his unnatural condition. Famous vampires are: David from “Lost Boys”, Santanico, from “Dusk till Dawn”, Barlow from “Salem’s Lot” or Lestat from “Interview with a Vampire”.

The main strengths of a vampire are: speed, endurance, agility, and good senses. They are basically immortal and quite resistant to any kind of physical damage. Their strengths depend on their stories. Some authors portray them also as having hypnotism abilities or as transforming into bats, wolves, mist. In the “Vampires Diaries”, they can compel anyone to do anything. In the teenage-saga “Twilight”, they can read the mind or cause physical pain just by staring at their target. One of their weaknesses is blood. They will suffer greatly from hunger and will age if they cannot feed on human blood. But the greatest weakness is their sensitivity to the sunlight. They are nocturnal creatures who get burned if they come in contact with the sunlight.

Werewolves: strengths and weaknesses

A werewolf is a man with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf after being scratched or bitten by another werewolf. Some famous werewolves in popular culture are: David, from “An American Werewolf in London”, Ginger, from “Ginger Snaps”, Edie, from “The Howling” or Will from “Wolf”. Their main strengths are speed, endurance, and raw power. They can basically travel for long distances without getting tired. They have incredible reflexes and some sharp teeth and claws which make them deadly. They can bite through wood and any kind of bone, even metal. Maybe one of their biggest strength is their ability to heal faster than any living creature on Earth.  In terms of weaknesses, we can only mention silver and silver bullets. These are the only things that could kill a werewolf if put through their heart. Also, bright lights or noises can hurt a werewolf because of his extremely sensitive senses.

So, who wins?

Given Vampires heal from wounds extremely fast and are basically immortal, they have a higher chance of winning. They may use their shapeshifting and fast speed to evade the Werewolves attacks. However, we’ll let you do the math and come up with a conclusion. What do you think?
